Bible Studies 2018-2019

Led by Loveday and Philip Alexander

All are welcome. All you need is an enquiring mind and a Bible (preferably one with maps!). If you have access to a Bible with Apocrypha, that could be useful too. We meet at 19:30 in the Parish Rooms (behind the church), mostly on the first Monday of the month.

Tom Wright, How God Became King (SPCK 2012).

There is a good selection of commentaries on Daniel in the Hanson library at the back of church. See also the one-volume Oxford Bible Commentary which has good short introductions to every book of the Bible.

MEETING TIME:            19:30 - 21:30

MEETING POINT:         St Philip & St James Parish Rooms

CONTACTS:                     Loveday Alexander (0161-439-7946) or Mandy Parr (586761)

The King and the Kingdoms: The Book of Daniel and the Apocalyptic Roots of Christian Faith

Daniel is a very important book in the Old Testament, and introduces a number of themes that are absolutely foundational for understanding the roots of Christian faith. But Daniel isn’t just about ancient history. It raises questions that are highly relevant to us today as we seek to live our lives faithfully in a world of ‘fake news’ and megalomaniac empires. So we will use Daniel as our ‘base text’ and look forward into the world of the New Testament and into our 21st-century world.
